A little care goes a long way.
There’s a real person on the other side of the envelope.
- Write with kindness. No harassment, hate, threats, sexual content, encouragement of self-harm, or graphic violence.
- Keep it anonymous. Leave out real names, school names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, social handles, and links — including in the greeting and sign-off.
- If you add an image, use one you have permission to share. Avoid faces, names, school logos, locations, and other identifying details. Images are reviewed with the letter.
- Leave the admissions competition outside. No ranking people by scores, schools, or decisions.
- Share your experience, not a diagnosis or a promise. You don’t have to solve a stranger’s life.
- Write your own words. No advertising, chain letters, copied work, or repeated submissions.
How review works
Automated checks flag common contact information and harmful phrases. Every accepted letter then waits for a human review before it can be delivered or published. Approval is not a guarantee that we’ll catch everything. If a letter feels wrong, use “Report this letter” when reading it. A reviewer can remove it from both the exchange and archive.
You can step away
You don’t owe this project a painful story, or a reply. Close a letter whenever you need to. This is a letter exchange, not a crisis support service. If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services or someone you trust nearby.
